A couple of minutes ago Clem announced the availability of Linux Mint 17.1 “Rebecca” RC. This release is a long term supported one, just like the previous version, 17. They share the same Ubuntu 14.04 base so both of them will receive security updates until 2019. This new version of Linux Mint features Cinnamon 2.4, MDM 1.8, a Linux kernel 3.13, updated packages and many other improvments. I wrote earlier about Update Manager improvments, artwork improvments, Cinnamon 2.4 & MDM, but for full overview see the official page here: Linux Mint 17.1 “Rebecca” New Features.
For the first time ever it’ll be easy to upgrade from the previous version of Mint to the new one. An upgrade will be available at the end of this month after the final version released.
